No Kidding! Spring Classes are Here
This past Saturday, a group of us learned how to make soap from Sergio and Rebecca Navarro of The Astral Farm in Grass Valley. Rebecca and Sergio brought raw goats milk from their small herd of goats and a variety of organic oils and butters for us to use and we each crafted a custom-scented batch to take home to cure. The group had a wonderful time blending and stirring as Sergio and Rebecca took us step-by-step through the process of creating our own soaps at home. Rebecca will be back on May 16th to teach beginner crochet, and we are working on scheduling leather wallets and goat cheese classes with Sergio this summer. Stay tuned for more from The Astral Farm!

Coming up this week:
We are thrilled to host local artist, Gail Weger, on Tuesday, April 14th for a fun upcycling workshop: Painting with Tissue Paper on Glass. Gail will teach us the process of creating "stained glass" vessels with tissue paper and students will decorate a variety of vases, jars, mirrors, windows, and other glass objects they bring from home. We will experiment and play in class and everyone will go home with adorned vessels and the skills to continue at home. There is still space in the workshop if you'd like to join us.
We invite you to join us this Thursday for our weekly Craft Club (4 to 6pm). This free community offering is open to everyone. For the month of April, we will continue meeting at the studio. We will be moving Craft Club to the Colfax Farmers Market for the summer so we can craft outdoors in the community! Our first session at the market will be on May 14th. The full schedule and location information is on our website linked below. Bring a work in progress and enjoy good company and treats as we craft in community.
We are hosting a special event with Snapdragon Provisions this Saturday evening from 6-9pm. Snapdragon will be open late and offering delicious small plates, desserts, and mocktails for purchase. Craftfolk will be leading a paint-your-own plate activity (there are only 4 spots left!). We will also have free live music from Allison Bohannon. Please join us!
Or full May class calendar is now posted and we are continuing to add new classes for the summer months. Be sure to check out the CLASS CALENDAR on our website to see all upcoming offerings.
Wishing you a creative week and hope to see you soon, Gretchen

Yesterday we explored the basics of block printing with Jill McCann. Jill introduced us to the tools of the trade, including brayers, cutting tools, barrens, rubber blocks, and inks/paints. She showed us how to cut sample blocks using an assortment of lines and textures, and then we each cut a design of our choice to stamp on various papers and fabric. I've always wanted to learn this craft and will definitely be incorporating it into my collage and sewing practices (I'm dreaming of hand-made...
Yesterday's The Rose Apothecary workshop was a full rose immersion! We surrounded ourselves with fresh rose petals, drank cold infused rose tea; and made rose honey, rose tea blends, rose infused oil and lip balm. We explored all parts of the rose, its petals, hips and thorns. We talked about how information about plants was passed down through generations via the oral tradition in fairytales and folktales. Rose is featured prominently in Sleeping Beauty (aka. Little Brier Rose, first...
This month I'm trying to revive my home garden, which I have neglected as I've been getting Craftfolk off the ground. In between weeding sessions, I'm enjoying the last flush of spring roses and have been harvesting and drying fresh petals each week to save for tea and other uses through the summer and fall. I am expecting a shipment of fresh rose petals from the Sonoma County Herb Exchange (an amazing resource for fresh organic herbs) this week in preparation for The Rose Apothecary workshop...
